SUBJECT REQUIREMENTS FOR CUYAMA HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION  

Please note:  These are the minimum requirements for graduation from Cuyama Valley High School .  More courses may be necessary for admittance into a college or university upon graduation.  Check the links above for more details.

Students shall satisfactorily complete a curriculum of not less than 265 semester units of credit, which satisfies the following criteria.

1.   160 units have been earned at grade “C” or better.

2.    35 units are in English. Students must be enrolled in eight (8) semesters of integrated courses combined instruction in listening, speaking, writing, reading and the study of literature.

3.    30 units are in Mathematics and consist of coursework at any level. Courses in Accounting may be used to towards this requirement.  

4.  30 units are in Social Science and include:

a.  10 units in World History and Geography

b.  10 units in United States History  

c.   5 units in United States Government

d.      5 units in Economics

5.   20 units are in Science and include:

a.   10 units in Earth Science

b.      10 units in  Biology

6.      10 units in Computer Technology

7.   10 units are in Fine Arts or Foreign Language.  Acceptable courses include:

a.      Spanish I, Spanish II

b.     French I, French II

c.      Art,  or Drama

d.  Home Economics (Home Economics is not eligible for CSU or UC credit)

8.   20 units are in Physical Education and include:  

a.   10 units of Freshman PE  

b.      10 units of Sophomore PE

c.      You may earn credit for a maximum of two sports played  

9.      100 units of Electives

10.  10 units of Senior Seminar  

11.  Pass the California High School Exit Examination (CAHSEE)*

*This is a State requirement which applies to current year Freshmen and Sophomores
