REMEMBERING SEPTEMBER 11, 2001

It started with oil !

Saddam Hussein wanted more oil and a port on the Persian gulf . 

Kuwait had both oil and a port - so, he attacked the country to get them.

The United Nations (including America) declared war on Saddam Hussein (Iraq)  called The Persian Gulf War . We won but we stopped too soon.

Saddam Hussein continued to be a bad guy after he lost the war. He killed thousands of his own people who disagreed with him – even using poison gas to kill an entire village.

The United Nations tried to get him to stop killing his own people for 10 years, stop making poison gas, and stop making a nuclear bomb !

MEANWHILE In Saudi Arabia the United States got permission to have air bases to attack Saddam Hussein. After the war, we stayed in Saudi Arabia to keep watching Saddam.

OSAMA BIN LADEN He is a wealthy man from Saudi Arabia. He didn’t like Americans and told his government to kick us out of Saudi Arabia.
Instead, they kicked HIM out !	He went to Afghanistan and asked them to help him train terrorists to kill Americans and others like us.

The Afghanistan government was ruled by Muslims called the TALIBAN – they were very strict with their people. The terrorists who were trained by Osama Bin Laden are called AL QAIDA. For several years they trained and then they struck America.

One plane flies into the Pentagon building in Washington D.C. .

The Pentagon represents the headquarters of America’s military.

Another plane is going to crash into the White House The White House represents the power of the American government.

but the passengers fight back and it crashed into a field in Pennsylvania killing everyone on the plane.

It CHANGED AMERICA We became more fearful, and then more careful

We went to war against Afganistan and are still there helping to rebuild and finish off the terrorists. We are chasing terrorists around the world – Iraq, Europe, Asia, and even here in the United States!
