1. People seldom visited distant places

2. The two important things in life were faith in God and duty to the church, their king,
     and their
lord.

3.Windows on the bottom floors were narrow slits to prevent enemy from entering.
    Upper windows had metal bars and glass.

4.Castles were for defense /  Edward 1st, king of England, built many Castles
    within 10 years by
forcing people to pay and to work.

5.Early castles were made of wood on big dirt mounds. Later castles were made of stone.

6. Castle walls on the inside were 8-12 feet thick. and 35 feet high.  Towers were 50 feet high

7. The castle's towers had 3 rooms {Bottom was for storage ,Upper 2 rooms
   were for Living and working}

8. The dungeon = underground prison or jail.

9. Many castles had a chapel.

10. Gatehouse = entrance to the castle with  wooden doors to stop the enemy  
   and with murder holes in the roof to pour boiling oil on the enemy
   and arrow slits on the side walls.

11. Drawbridge = bridge over moat and trap for enemy.

12. The Castle’s inside buildings used wattle {sticks woven together in the wall } 
        and daub {plaster made  with mud, straw & cow dung }

13. Castles had bathrooms {pit Toilets}

14. Castle roofs were made of slate {stone} to reduce fire.

15. Water from the roof goes into cistern {watertank} and is used for drinking water.

16. The Great Hall is the place for eating and socializing. They ate with their hands.
      Wine cups were shared with others.
      Entertainment was by musicians, storytellers and poets.
